Makhosi Gogo Mncwabe
Makhosi Gogo Mncwabe is considered one of the Zulu elders and is teacher to Makhosi Sarah Wager and Makhosi Ngcobo. She was called to be a Sangoma in her 40’s and she is now in her 70’s not quite giving her age away. She has been working as a Sangoma for all of this time and lives in KwaZulu-Natal with her family.
Makhosi Mncwabe is dedicated to honouring the Sangoma tradition and passing on what knowledge she has to the Sangoma students. She is adament that “colour of skin and race does not limit the ubizo or calling of the ancestors’ and that if we are to truly heal then we have to stop defining our selves by race and colour, spirit does not have one colour, the ancestors call people by what they see in their heart and soul… not their skin colour.
The ubizo, ancestors calling is the important thing which must be there at the start and the honouring of elders and sangoma lineage.” Makhosi Mncwabe is passionate about the integrity involved in the Sangoma work. She has wide plant medicine knowledge and encourages all she meets to embrace their ancestors and have courage in their hearts.
